The day is finally here!!!
Today, all three girls indoor volleyball teams at Estrella Foothills High School get back to doing what they love. On the court. Competing. Playing in what is sure to be a memorable season during a pandemic.
The booster club has fielded a lot of questions over the past couple of weeks. Looking back, I wish I had a guide to understand high school athletics as a new family in the program. So, I thought I'd share some helpful resources.
WHAT IS AIA?
AIA is the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Essentially, it's the group of public and private high schools overseeing and operating high school athletics in our state.
AIA establishes the rules, provides the referees, and coordinates the tourney schedules. (In a nutshell.)
DIVISION AND REGION.
WHAT'S THE BEST APP FOR SCHEDULES?
In Arizona, we follow the AZ Preps 365 app. It's run by AIA. You can download the app to your mobile device. I prefer to save the web link to our team on my phone as its own tab.
When you click here, you'll see the schedules for our teams. Click on the FR/SO tab for JV Blue. Click JV for our JV Black team. Click Varsity for... Varsity.
The roster shows you what you want to know about our Varsity players. The booster club put together rosters on our website, too.
If our Varsity team qualifies for state, the AZPreps365 will have bracket information here.
State tournament information will be here.
MaxPreps has our schedule, too. But it only updates after AZ Preps 365. It's good for checking out national volleyball player stats.
If you set up a MaxPreps account, you can "claim" your daughter's profile and upload an image. This also is where you'll be able to see any professional photos of your daughter if they are taken throughout the season. Yes, you can purchase those photos from the photographer.
SETS. SCORES. MODIFICATIONS.
This is your best volleyball rules guide for this season.
In the new modifications, it appears teams will not switch sides unless referees believe there to be a "distinct" advantage as a reason to switch sides.
Time-outs might be a little longer to give players, officials, and coaches a little extra time for hydration and sanitizing protocols.
TICKETS AND LIVE STREAMING.
Each athlete was given two tickets for tonight's matches. You can choose who the two people are to use your tickets.
YOU MUST PAY CASH AT THE DOOR. $5 ADULTS. $3 STUDENTS. 5 and under are free... as long as they have a ticket provided to them by a player.
Booster Club will attempt to live stream the JV games through our Facebook page.
The Varsity match will be live streamed through AZ Prep Spotlight.
Parents are allowed to record their own private video from the stands.
FANS DURING THE PANDEMIC.
In all seriousness, we really need to follow the best safety guidelines we can. The last thing we want is to jeopardize the season. If you don't feel well or know someone ill in your home or social circle, please stay home. You can catch the broadcasts from your couch!
RESPECT THE REFS.
Being an official is, by far, the most difficult position to be in. Arizona has a shortage of referees as they've had it with harassment from parents and fans.
You can imagine how much more difficult this season will be with all of the new modifications and decisions they'll have to make.
Estrella Foothills has a tradition of treating officials with respect. Empathy will go a long way in keeping the vibes positive this season.
OUR FAVORITE, FAMILIAR FACES.
Coach Claaaaayyyy!! Clay Bewley M.Ed. CSCS is the Strength, Speed, and Conditioning Coach at Estrella Foothills High School. He's also the amazing dad to the adorable Lindy.
It's really a shame the teams weren't able to work with him in person over the summer. But, it appears they'll get back in Coach Clay's training rotation soon. #BigBankTakeLilBank
If you want to know who the most dedicated people are... these two are right at the top!
On behalf of the Booster Club Board of Directors, we welcome you to the EFHS Volleyball program. Please be sure to stop by and introduce yourself to us. And we can't wait to see returning families!!
Best wishes to the coaches, team managers, and athletes!! Win or lose, we'll always be your biggest fans!
